About Us

A Brief History And A Bit Of Background

In 1986, I was contracted by a consortium of concerned NGO’s (non-governmental organizations) in SE Asia to teach indigenous populations how to best cope with the intrusions of modern civilizations into their lives. Heavy emphasis was placed on populations living in the tropical rainforests of SE Asia because of the accelerated pace of deforestation. I worked with the Batak in Northern Sumatra, the Dayak, Iban and Peman in Borneo, the Bugis in the Celebes and the Asmat, Santani, Biak and Dani peoples of New Guinea. The name of our company, Sejati, which means “authentic” in the Malay language, is derived from the nature of pieces given to me for my personal collection. When I returned home, my friends were so enamored with the gifts I had received they asked me to return and purchase more. Thus, in 1991, Sejati Environmental Trading Company was incorporated in Florida.

Sejati Environmental ceased operations five years ago. After eighteen years of successful operations, the stress, coupled with the loss of my wife-Lesley, prompted me to retire. I now find retirement is not all it’s trumped up to be (no pun intended). Our company emphasis was to provide a unique product for our customers, while at the same time provide a livelihood for indigenous people; a livelihood that doesn’t destroy their unique natural environment.

At the time of closing, Sejati had in excess of four thousand five hundred customers. From chain stores to museums, we supplied literally hundreds of thousands of unique pieces. Like the phoenix rising from the ashes, Sejati is back, back with a user-friendly, albeit unfinished, website. Check it out at www.sejati.biz   We will be back on the show circuit in the near future and look forward to meeting you personally at one of the many shows we do. In the meantime, we are offering “show Specials” pricing to the first 250 accounts who place an order as our way of saying “WELCOME BACK.”

We have established a new distribution center at 1528 Virgils Way STE 3, Green Cove Springs, FL 32043. Our new phone numbers are (904) 863- 3113 or (904) 863-3161 and the fax is (904) 863-3159.
