The Batak,

Marco Polo wrote in the 13th century of paying tribute to the Batak to transit the strait of Malacca.  They were a warlike, aggressive people who resisted European missionaries and local armies well into the 20th century. Cannibalism which was a method of social control for them kept many potential invaders from their area. The Batak are the only known people to practice cannibalism and to have a written language. The modern Batak while not technically a “disenfranchised forest people” may certainly be classified as a marginalized people.

One might call this item the primitive form of a safe. Personally, I would not fill it with hundred Dollar bills. However, I can sit and look with awe at the scale and beauty of  the seemingly endless variations of this item.
